Prologue: Choices Made
"So, if I win... I'm captain. And if you win..."
"I get to share the paopu with Kairi."
"Huh!?"
It seemed petty to go through their race for nothing but the name of their vessel, so Sora thought he'd raise the stakes just a bit - but this was a raise he wasn't expecting. Riku turned to him with a grin that could eat pelican droppings. "Deal?" he asked. Then, pointing a thumb at himself; "The winner gets to share a paopu with Kairi."
Such self-assured confidence in his victory should have infuriated Sora; but he couldn't, for the sheer audacity of what Riku was proposing boggled him. "Wha- Wait a minute...!" His tho

A long shape.
Fingers at the end, to show it was an arm.
Then, carefully, a star figure that didn't overlap, to show it was being held in that hand.
Sora pulled his 'art stone' - as he and Kairi had called them, when they were young - away, the drawing finished. He'd stumbled across a pair of drawings that they had done so long ago; Sora, and Kairi, the face of each drawn by the other. Out of wishful thinking - or maybe idle fantasy - he had added something to it; a paopu fruit, being held out by Sora.
Silence struck him... in a cave that always howled with wind. Sora spun around, and was shocked to see someone s

"So, Kairi's home is out there somewhere, right?"
Sora's query prompted Riku to shrug, not moving from his perch at the base of the bent paopu tree. "Could be," he admitted. "We'll never know by staying here."
"So, suppose you get to another world," Kairi mused from the bend. With a giggle; "What would you do there?"
Riku opened his mouth to respond... and realized that he didn't have an answer. "Well," he admitted, "I... I haven't really thought about it." He shook his head. "It's just... I've always wondered why we're here, on these islands."
His gaze went to the setting sun. "If there are any other worlds o

Chapter 3: Unguarded
"...ra? Sora!"
The voice cut through the grip of unconsciousness; Sora forced his eyes open to find a blur of red above him. After a moment's pause, his vision cleared enough for him to recognize the worried face that gazed down at him.
"...Kairi?"
A smile of relief broke out on Kairi's face. "Sora!" Before he had the chance to react, she had her arms around him, and Sora started on the bed - yes, he realized as he glanced around him, he was lying on a bed, in a room painted green.
"Easy, easy," Sora insisted. Sitting himself upright. "I feel like I got hit by a tree."
"Said the tree doing the hitting." The female v

Chapter 4: Heartless in Wonderland
The gummi ship did indeed look fruity - from the outside. The exterior was yellow and bright red, save for a cannon on the underside. From the inside, it was quite apparent that Sora and Kairi needed leave this to someone who knew what they were doing. They were also rather disturbed to find only three seats; Donald was perched at the wheel, and Goofy seated himself next to a display, leaving one left.
"Twenty seconds to take-off," Donald informed them.
"Right," Sora mused. "Where's the rest of the seats?"
"Sorry," Goofy told him, "we've only got the three. It's usually just us and the King."
Sora grunt

Chapter 5: Storm Cloud
A return trip to Traverse Town... was not in short order. The Heartless ships spared no effort in trying to to strike them down, and they missed Traverse Town by a mile - courtesy of a damaged left engine and a subsequent inability to turn right.
Consequently, their landing was none-too-gentle, either; in fact, the 'landing' could only barely be considered not a crash. They had landed outside a large set of walls in bronze; deciding that this would do as far as "staying out of sight" was required, Donald just popped the cockpit and hopped out, followed shortly by Goofy, Sora, and an again-seasick Kairi.
"So, is that

Chapter 6: Wicked Wild
As they arrived at the gummi ship, Sora and Kairi were introduced to the engineers; Chip and Dale's minute figures looked like they'd be excellent for working on something like this. As soon as they were belted in, Donald rocketed off the world and out towards Traverse Town.
Or so he thought. The space between worlds was beautiful, but it sure wasn't empty, and as Donald soared Sora realized that the formations they were flying through were not the ones they had come through on route to the Coliseum.
"Donald," he prompted, "I think you're going the wrong way."
"I know," Donald grumbled, quickly arcing out of the way

Chapter 7: Caught Off Garde
True to Goofy's word, the gummi ship was right-side up and out of Deep Jungle in short order. As they idled in the world's vicinity, Donald drew out the gummi that they had found in the Cavern of Hearts.
"What does this thing do?" he murmured, stepping out of the seat. "I've never seen a gummi like this before."
Goofy hummed. "I dunno," he admitted. "Maybe Leon'll have an idea?"
Donald nodded. "Back to Traverse Town, then."
"Dibs on the pilot's seat!" Sora called, dropping into the chair before Donald could object.
"Hey!" Donald protested.
"Come on," Kairi argued. "You've been hogging the chair this whole tr

Chapter 8: Desert of Darkness
After picking up a few replacement weapons, Kairi, Sora, Donald, and Goofy headed out to their next destination - and Cid's job on the gummi ship made the flight out of Traverse Town so much easier. The ship was more durable, moved faster, and had more weaponry; a Comet laser positioned next to the Thunder cannon under the ship hunted down Heartless ships rather than just firing straight ahead, and a Thundara cannon on either side - at different orientations - had shots firing up, down, left, and right to take out any that tried to maneuver out of the way.
The Curaga cockpit was also much roomier than the Cure

Chapter 9: Shadows on the Ocean Between
The departure from Agrabah was simple enough; Sora found an abandoned storage building, and Donald warped the four of them back to the Gummi Ship. Once they were there, Sora found himself looking curiously at the two items Genie had given them.
"A lock and a key..." Sora echoed.
"You got any idea what he was talking about?" Donald asked.
Kairi looked the orb over quizzically. "I think this is kinda like the Summon Gems," she mused. "If I invoke Genie the way I invoked Simba, he'll show up the same way." Turning to Goofy; "Am I allowed to do that?"
"I'm pretty sure," he confirmed. "He looked like he
